The Église paroissiale Saint-Barthélémy dates back to an original 11th-century building dedicated to Saint-Sauveur; its nave was built in the first half of the 13th century. Since 20 January 2000, the church has been classified as a Monument historique.

Culture

The adjacent former cemetery and its enclosure were included in the classification as a Monument historique by the decree of 20 January 2000. The former cemetery is no longer in use and preserves several 19th-century gravestones.

The Maison dite la Commanderie developed from a 13th- or 14th-century house. Openings from the late 15th, early 16th and mid-17th centuries have been preserved there. The Capitainerie in Vaugines was built around 1550.

Between 1873 and 1875, a private individual bequeathed a house so that it could be used as the Chapelle Saint-Joseph. The former Chapelle Saint-Joseph was converted into Vaugines’ municipal library in 1988. Its southern side features a remarkable triple sundial displaying solar time as well as winter and summer time.

In Vaugines’ old town centre, the lanes contain numerous fossils, including the Rue des Coquillages. The church square and the Fontaine in Vaugines served as filming locations in 1986 for Claude Berri’s films Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources.
