Nature
The Chemin des Lavandes is an easy-to-follow educational trail in the Sault plain. Its yellow markings and themed information panels provide information about the history and cultivation of lavender.
The Aroma’Plantes distillery offers visitors direct access to the lavender fields, a free guided tour of the distillery and free access to museum areas. Tours of the GAEC Distillerie Vallon des Lavandes explain the cultivation and cutting of lavender, its transport to the distillery and the individual stages of distillation.
Culture
Notre Dame de la Tour is a Romanesque church built at the beginning of the 12th century and classified as a Historic Monument since 1990. It is open to the public and can be visited as part of a free self-guided tour.
The Musée Municipal de Sault was founded in 1859 and houses prehistoric, Gallo-Roman, medieval, mineralogical and Egyptian collections. Its library contains thousands of old books as well as an original copy of Diderot’s Encyclopédie.
The discovery trail “One hour on the wolf’s steps” leads through the historic centre of Sault and explores the story of Loup d'Agoult, a medieval Seigneur of Sault. In the historic village, visitors can also see the remains of the fortification walls; three towers of the former medieval castle are still visible.
La Route des lavoirs Saltésiens was added to the Vaucluse Department’s “Rencontres au fil de l’eau” visitor programme in November 2023. In addition, La MicroFolie in Sault offers a digital museum, a virtual reality area and a communal games area; it opened in 2022.
Local Life
The Marché hebdomadaire in Sault is a Provençal market held every Wednesday morning since 1515.
The Fête de la Lavande takes place in Sault on 15 August. It includes a producers’ market featuring lavender and lavandin products, including essential oils, flowers, cosmetics, bouquets, honey and sweets. The festival also includes a sickle-cutting lavender competition for amateurs and a French championship in sickle-cutting lavender for professionals.
