La Bastidonne: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The circular route to the Chapelle Saint-Julien is very easy, 3.1 km long, and designated as an out-and-back route with an indicated duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It starts at the Castellet car park and ends in La Bastidonne.

Nature

La Bastidonne is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon. The Saint-Julien plateau is less than 1.5 km from the village, lies at an altitude of 449 metres, and is suitable for a walk. The site preserves the remains of a large oppidum that was inhabited during the Iron Age and the Gallo-Roman period.

The Colline Saint-Julien is a small cuesta landform with a steep southern slope and a gently sloping northern slope. It reaches an altitude of 449 metres and offers views towards the Luberon and Sainte-Victoire. The Colline Saint-Julien is also one of around sixty designated geosites in the Géoparc du Luberon. The grounds of the Chapelle Saint-Julien offer walkers panoramic views of the Luberon and the Durance Valley.

History

The Chapelle Saint-Julien was built on the site of an oppidum. Remains of walls and a monolithic altar have survived from the chapel. A hermitage was established next to the Chapelle Saint-Julien at the end of the 17th century or during the first third of the 18th century.

The Église Notre Dame de Bonne Aventure has a Romanesque choir dating from the 13th century. In 1486, it became the parish church, with a baptismal font and cemetery.

Culture

The covered washhouse is part of the official circular route to the Chapelle Saint-Julien through La Bastidonne. Another cultural venue is the Atelier de Peinture « Lou Sarraïé ». Permanent and temporary exhibitions are held there; admission is free for all visitors. Visitors can also enjoy a personal and friendly exchange with the painter Toni Balenci.
