The historic centre of Grillon is Le Vialle. It is located on the summit of a saffron hill and is considered an exemplary integration of history into a construction project. The medieval Vialle, Grillon’s original and historic quarter, includes the Maison Milon. It stands on a rocky acropolis approximately 15 metres above the present-day village. Between 1342 and 1372, Le Vialle was crowned with high fortification walls.

Culture

The Maison de Chapuis de Tourville preserves a section of the covered walkway at attic level. The present-day Sainte-Agathe Church is a 19th-century Neo-Gothic building; its construction began in 1869, and it was blessed in 1870. The church also contains three old paintings listed in the regional inventory. It also preserves a wrought-iron cross donated in 1783 by Cardinal-Duke Salviati. It was recovered in 1983 from the ruins of the Vialle near its original location, the Porte Neuve.

Le Beffroi was originally a watchtower at the northern entrance to Grillon’s fortifications; its conversion into a belfry was completed in 1778. It is listed in the supplementary register of historic monuments and is regarded as the only element of the Vialle to have survived the decay in its original entirety and to have remained virtually intact.
