Le Glaizil: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The ruins of Château de Lesdiguières were built in 1571 and 1575 and have been listed as a historic monument since 27 July 1978.

Culture

In the main village of Le Glaizil, there are four washhouses, including the municipality’s only covered washhouse. The present-day Saint-Jacques-Saint-Ambroise Church replaces a 14th-century church that was destroyed by fire. A hike along the water leads to 16 fountains and washhouses within the municipality of Le Glaizil.

The permanent exhibition on Château de Lesdiguières presents 18 panels about the Constable, the château and its construction. Every July, the village’s young people light the communal bread oven for the Fête du pain.

Nature

Le Glaizil lies within the type 2 ZNIEFF „Dévoluy septentrional: massif de la montagne de Féraud“, characterised by limestone ridges, imposing rock faces, scree slopes and grassy hillsides. Chapeau de l’évêque, also known as Pic du Glaizil, offers panoramic views of the Champsaur and the entrance to the narrow Valgaudemar Valley. A hike through the Forêt du Sapet leads to this small summit above the Drac Valley, with views of the high peaks of Valgaudemar.

Trails and Activities

The outdoor sports offering in Champsaur-Valgaudemar includes a climbing site in Le Glaizil: The Lesdiguières climbing site has 17 routes, including two easy routes graded 5a. Le Glaizil is the starting point for numerous hiking trails, including rocky paths and accessible walking routes for different levels of ability.

The „From Claret to Aspres-les-Corps“ stage passes through the hamlet of Pouillardenc and Le Glaizil before reaching the D571 near the ruins of Château de Lesdiguières and the museum.
