The recurring summer art trail “À ciel ouvert…!” transforms squares, streets and parks in Gap into open-air galleries with sculptures and installations. At the 14th edition, eight new works were added to those already present in the city.

Culture

The Musée muséum départemental has been open to the public since 1910. It displays the monumental Mausolée de Lesdiguières. Its collection on Alpine archaeology covers 13,000 years of history.

The Cathédrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Arnoux is classified as a historic monument and defines Gap with its polychrome façade and imposing bell tower. It is freely accessible year-round, except during religious services.

The Chapelle des Pénitents is a former place of prayer that is now used as a concert hall.

The Ecomusée de l'artisanat des Hautes-Alpes traces the agricultural, economic and human history of the Hautes-Alpes from 1790 to 1950. History

Gap’s historic center preserves narrow, interconnected lanes and tall houses as evidence of its past as a fortified town.

In 1815, Gap was a stop along the Route Napoléon during Napoleon’s return from Elba.

Nature

The Jardin alpin de Gap-Charance showcases 20 natural and near-natural habitats of the French Alps.

The Parc de la Pépinière in Gap is a park with centuries-old trees and shaded paths. It has a children’s play area, swings and picnic tables.

The Domaine de Charance welcomes walkers, sports enthusiasts and families. It is freely accessible every day from April to the end of October.

Activities

The Trail Gapen'cimes is a trail-running event held in autumn that was launched in 2008. The trail offers several routes between 1 and 50 km, including a children’s trail and a route for the Challenge des supers héros.
