The Église Saint-Pierre in Pompaire was rebuilt between 1865 and 1866, replacing a Romanesque building constructed in the 12th century. It has ten stained-glass windows made between 1862 and 1865. A tour of the Église Saint-Pierre allows visitors to see the religious furnishings, statues and other works of art, including 14 Stations of the Cross. The Église Saint-Pierre de Parthenay-le-Vieux is a Romanesque monument on the routes to Santiago de Compostela and has been classified as a historic monument since 1846.

The Maison du Patrimoine is located in Pompaire’s former public school, which was repurposed in 2005, and serves as a place of remembrance, meeting and events. It displays documents relating to the local heritage, exhibition panels, household objects, agricultural tools used in the past and a school corner recalling the classroom’s use from 1890 to 1975. The covered area and courtyard of the Maison du Patrimoine display agricultural machinery from the 1920s.

Landscape and Trails

The Viette forms Pompaire’s southern municipal boundary and flows into the Thouet at Parthenay-le-Vieux. The GR36 long-distance hiking trail runs for several hundred metres through Pompaire, near the Église Saint-Pierre de Parthenay-le-Vieux, along the beginning of the Route du Coteau and the Chemin du Rézard. The Gué du Rézard is a remarkable example of small-scale hydraulic heritage and consists of stone slabs resting on blocks lying in the water.
