Cherveux: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Château de Cherveux was built in the 15th century by Robert Cunningham, a Scottish captain who had served Charles VII and later became captain of Louis XI’s guard. Its design features an irregular pentagonal fortified layout with wide moats, slender towers, a drawbridge, and a keep.

The Saint-Pierre church next to the Château de Cherveux was built in the 12th century and extensively renovated at the beginning of the 20th century. Its stained-glass windows were replaced at the beginning of the 20th century and depict a long series of saints and saintly figures.
The rampart walk on the fourth floor of the Château de Cherveux offers panoramic views over the village and the Niort plain.
Nature
The « À fleur d’eau » garden combines stone sculptures, stained-glass works, and metal artworks with the vegetation. It is a five-hectare landscaped garden with diverse landscapes, several biotopes, and around 40,000 trees.
Activities
The almost two-kilometre-long, signposted Sentier de découverte de Bouriquaille begins at the former temple, passes around the school, and then winds through the countryside.
The Plan d’eau de Cherveux / Saint-Christophe was created in 1972 on the initiative of the mayors of Cherveux and Saint-Christophe-sur-Roc and lies within the territory of both municipalities. The Plan d’O de Cherveux–Saint-Christophe has a water-ski lift; activities in the treetop adventure park are also offered there.
Surroundings
In the surroundings of Cherveux are the historic Château de Mursay and the historic Prieuré de la Salette. The Abbatiale de Saint-Maixent-l'École, an abbey church, is also nearby. The donjon of Niort, a monument, is likewise located in the vicinity of Cherveux.
