Oiron: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Near Oiron lies Château d'Oiron, a palace. Its 55-metre-long gallery houses one of the largest painted ensembles of the French Renaissance. Visitors can freely explore the monument and its park. The château also houses the contemporary art collection Curios & Mirabilia, which is inspired by the idea of Renaissance art and curiosity cabinets.

Culture

The Collégiale Saint-Maurice in Oiron has been classified as a historic monument since 1840. The Renaissance works were completed between 1535 and 1540; the building was completed in 1550. A caiman hangs in the Collégiale.

The dolmen «La Pierre à Pineau» is also a protected monument: it has been classified as a historic monument since 1979. The dolmen is located in the Noizé district of Oiron and is the only surviving one of the four dolmens originally found at this site.

Saint-Martin-les-Baillargeaux is a Catholic church that, judging by its architecture, probably dates from the 10th or 11th century. It stands beside a small cemetery in open countryside, about 100 metres from the village.

The «Par chemins de verre vers un jardin secret» route leads through the village’s hidden lanes. These are marked with pink paving stones and covered with crushed recycled glass.

The «Par chemins et par clos vers le jardin d’Oiron» circular route runs for around 8 km around the village; along the way, visitors can discover 12 catalogued trees. «Secrets en Orioni» is an artistic circular route inspired by curiosity cabinets, with contemporary installations spread throughout Oiron and its surrounding area.

The Abbaye Saint Jouin De Marnes, a historic site, is located near Oiron. Saint-Léger de Montbrun, a church, is also nearby. Further afield in the region around Oiron lies the Prieuré de Saint-Eutrope, a historic site.
