The Benedictine Abbey of Les Alleuds was founded in 1120 in the hamlet of Les Alleuds by Saint Giraud de Salles. At least 24 abbots led it in succession. During the Hundred Years’ War, the abbey was looted and damaged several times.

History
Only the nave and portal of the former Notre-Dame Abbey Church remain. The former abbey church houses the tomb of Abbot Guillaume, who died in 1318.
Culture
The Église Notre-Dame dates from the late 15th century. Its bell tower stands on a square ground plan and is decorated with large round-arch arcades on all four sides. The Église Notre-Dame has been listed as a historic monument since 22 October 1926.
In front of the portal of the Église Notre-Dame stands a lime tree several centuries old, with a trunk circumference of 4.2 metres.
Walking Routes
The “Chemin de l’Abbaye” hiking trail follows a return route of less than 300 metres to the remains of the Benedictine Abbey. The hiking trail reaches Les Alleuds at Bois du Juge.
Nature
The underground Bataillé River is located in the municipality of Alloinay, which was formed by the merger of Gournay-Loizé and Les Alleuds. For public visits to the underground Bataillé River by people without caving expertise, supervision by a professional caver with a state diploma is mandatory.
The underground Bataillé River can be accessed via a 28-metre-deep artificial shaft at the former Bataillé pumping station.
