In Maisonnay, the Église paroissiale Notre-Dame reflects a complex local history. Its portal, two western pillars and two deposited capitals may date from the 12th century. In 1372, the church was mentioned as a fortified church; by 1841, only its ruins remained. The rebuilt Église paroissiale Notre-Dame was blessed on 1 September 1872. A bell tower was added at the beginning of the 20th century, and the façade was restored around 1910.
Culture and History
The construction also features several distinctive details: the portal is made of ashlar, while the other exterior walls consist of rubble masonry. The nave is covered with hollow tiles, and the octagonal tower spire with slate. The portal decoration includes flowers, palmettes, foliate ornaments, peltae, Gilgamesh, lions, griffins and a mask.
The historical heritage of Maisonnay also includes the Manoir de Nieul. Its main construction phase dates from the 15th century; it was built for the de Parthenay family in the 15th century. The Manoir de Nieul is privately owned.

Hiking and Leisure
A dedicated path was created to ensure a continuous connection between the hiking trails linking the centre of Maisonnay and Bois Roger, running alongside the parallel road to the RD948 and the structure. The “Boucle entre Chail et Fontivillié” route reaches the Maisonnay cemetery. In the surrounding area of Maisonnay, it invites visitors to see the Protestant cemetery of La Tallée; after the hamlet of La Tallée, it leads to the Grand Lac.
The “Moissac Les Mardres” hiking route is listed in Maisonnay with a length of 12.0 km. For this hiking route, a meeting point for carpooling is indicated in a car park at the foot of the pylon. The Association Les Traîne-Gailloches in Maisonnay aims to promote leisure activities by organising hikes, board games, card games and other activities.
