Nature

The 19-hectare Communaux de l'Hôpiteau were designated an Espace naturel sensible (ENS) in 2012. They comprise nine habitats worthy of protection, including heathland, Molinia meadows and aquatic vegetation; four of these are of community interest.

The Communaux de l'Hôpiteau are remnants of a heathland landscape once widespread in Poitou, known here as “Brande”. They include 300 ponds scattered across the heathland.
