Culture

To the west of La Moussolière in Caunay, Tertiary clays containing millstone slabs are found; they were intensively quarried for the production of millstones.

The Église Saint Pierre aux liens de Caunay is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. Its apse is articulated by small columns framing three broad arcades. The church is entered through a side door on the south side with hook capitals.

Landscape

The Circuit des Meulières is a hiking trail in Caunay that runs predominantly through woodland. The moderately difficult circular route is 7.6 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Marked in blue, the circular trail leads to former quarries where millstones were extracted and covers historical, unusual and nature-related themes.

The Fontaine de Fontadam consists of two parts, a spring and a pond, and has a round basin. It is located in a wood beside a road. About 150 metres after a forest crossroads, the hiking trail reaches old millstone quarry pits. The spring of the Fontaine de Fontadam is visible from the road; there is a well in the middle of the washhouse.

Nature

The ZNIEFF Plaine de la Mothe Saint-Héray Lezay comprises open agricultural landscapes on clay soils, interspersed with hedgerows, as well as wet meadows and calcareous grasslands. It is home to a significant bird population of open plains, including little bustards, stone-curlews, two species of harrier and red-backed shrikes.

At the GAEC Il était une ferme farm, visitors can discover not only goat's cheese but also a farm bakery in the establishment's bakehouse.
