Culture and History
The Église Saint-Herie in Matha combines a Romanesque nave with a choir in the early Gothic style. Since April 10, 1912, it has been classified as a historic monument by decree.
The Château de Matha was built in the 9th century and has been classified as a historic monument since 1948. The entrance châtelet, in the form of a Renaissance pavilion, is still preserved.
The Jardin de Paix in Matha is an 8,000 m² public garden dedicated to solidarity and the pursuit of peace. It features monumental works of art by national and international artists addressing human rights. Peace plaques sent to Matha by heads of state and representatives of cultures from around the world are also displayed there.

Nature
La Bambouseraie in Matha contains more than 60 varieties of bamboo from collections, as well as tropical flowers, lotus flowers and spectacular water lilies, including an impressive giant water lily.
During a visit there, visitors can discover ornamental ducks, Australian geese, Asian pheasants and crowned cranes. A sensory plant experience is also offered, featuring medicinal, aphrodisiac and shamanic plants, as well as plants to smell, touch and taste.

The Les Étangs de Thors – PR 23 circular route runs between Matha and Thors through forests and vineyards near the l’Antenne stream, a tributary of the Charente. Variants of 14 km in 3 hours 30 minutes or 11 km in 2 hours 45 minutes are indicated.
