Saint-Sauvant: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Saint-Sauvant bears the “Petite Cité de Caractère” label and is situated on a rocky promontory above the Coran Valley. On a hill overlooking the town and the Coran and Pidou valleys stands the Romanesque Church of Saint-Sylvain, which dates from the 12th century.
Culture
Saint-Sylvain Church has an intricately decorated apse with a series of arcades and diamond-shaped points arranged above them. Numerous corbels depict animals, fantastical mythical creatures or human masks. Merovingian sarcophagi around the church bear witness to a significant Christian community dating from the 5th century.
The medieval tower of Saint-Sauvant probably dates from between 1300 and 1450. It is not open to the public.
At the entrance to Saint-Sauvant, the former town gate marks the beginning of a walk to discover the local architectural heritage.
