Culture and History
At the Musée du Platin, the permanent exhibition extends across four thematic levels. The ground floor presents Les Châteliers Abbey and traditional activities on Île de Ré, including agriculture, viticulture, oyster farming and fishing.
Les Châteliers Abbey is classified as a historic monument and was completed in 1156 by Cistercian monks. It comprises the abbey church, galleries, the monastery garden and the former refectory. The site is freely accessible and can also be explored on guided tours with the Musée du Platin.
Fort La Prée was built in 1625 under Louis XIII and later remodelled by the engineer Vauban. It is the oldest fort built in Charente-Maritime. The fort and its outworks are fully classified as historic monuments; this classification was established by a decree dated 21 May 2008.

Coast and Townscape
Arnérault Beach is a town beach on the northern coast of Île de Ré, directly beside the port of La Flotte in the town centre. In July and August, it is supervised from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. by three lifeguards from SDIS 17. The beach has sanitary facilities, a shower and a first-aid station. There is a ramp providing access to the water for swimming; amphibious beach wheelchairs of the Hippocampe or Tiralo type can be provided for people with disabilities.
La Clavette Beach lies west of the port of La Flotte and is designated as an unsupervised beach. The coastal promenade runs parallel to Cours Félix Faure or towards Arnérault Beach.
Town Life
The market in La Flotte was built in 1804, is inspired by medieval architecture and features a paved courtyard and wooden awnings over the market stalls. Local products on offer include fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, seafood, cheese and regional produce.
Sightseeing and Activities
A guided tour of the port of La Flotte covers its history from the 17th century to the present day. Fort La Prée can be visited independently or on a guided tour, depending on the day of the week and opening hours. Activities mentioned in La Flotte include cycling tours.
In the middle of the summer holidays, a week-long re-enactment of a Napoleonic infantry regiment takes place at Fort La Prée, featuring firing demonstrations, a changing of the guard and insights into camp life.
