Culture and history

The Château de la Ville-au-Fourrier incorporates a medieval predecessor building that was extended in the 16th century. A gallery was added to the west wing in the 17th century, the interiors were expanded in the 18th century, and the exterior and parts of the interior were modified in the 19th century. The château is partially protected as a historic monument; this protection covers the façades and roofs of the château and its outbuildings.

The main construction phases of the Église Saint-Vincent date from the 11th to the 14th century. Since 1 December 1969, the church as a whole has been classified as a historic monument.

Next to the church stands the former Prieuré-cure, a remarkable tuffeau-stone building with a carved door, a hexagonal stair tower and tracery windows. The north façade, the associated roof and the stair tower of the former Prieuré-cure have been protected as historic monuments since 16 April 1975.

The historic site of Abbaye de Louroux is located in the immediate vicinity of Vernoil-le-Fourrier. The Château de la Coutancière and the historic site of Camp de la Morellerie are also located in the surrounding area.
