Jarzé: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Since 22 June 1967, the Église Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte has been classified as a historic monument; the protection also covers the murals contained within it.

History

The Château de Jarzé was rebuilt around 1473 by Jean Bourré on the foundations of a fortress built under Foulque Nerra. On 12 November 1595, the Château de Jarzé was visited by Charles IX.

The Église Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte in Jarzé was built in phases during the 12th, 15th and 16th centuries. Jean Bourré and his wife Marguerite are buried together in the church of Jarzé.

Culture

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Montplacé was built in the 17th century on the heights of Montplacé in Jarzé. It houses a 14th-century walnut-wood Pietà; a collection of bridal crowns is also displayed there. Concerts are held in the chapel every summer.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Montplacé is open for visits on Sundays in July and August from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., except on concert days. Free visits for individuals and groups are available throughout the year by appointment.

Things to Do

The Trame verte de Jarzé includes a signposted 2.7 km circular route that can be completed in 30 to 40 minutes.

The monuments include the Dolmen de la Roche-Thibault, one of two well-preserved dolmens north and south of the road from Jarzé to Seiches. The Dolmen des Landes or du Plessis is associated with an upright sandstone slab known as the Menhir des Landes or du Plessis.
