Culture and History

In the Saint-Pierre-la-Casse district, a remnant of the former Saint-Pierre church has been preserved: a roughly constructed rubble-stone wall with a Romanesque arch above a niche. The former Saint-Pierre chapel or church served the parishioners of Vaudelnay for almost a thousand years.

The year 1772 is displayed above the door of the Messemé chapel; it is considered the presumed year of construction. The Messemé chapel was the private chapel of the Domaine de Champagne, a district of Vaudelnay.

Paths and Excursions

The “From woods to vineyards and wash houses – Variant” hiking trail is 12.7 km long. It is a circular route starting at the Place de la mairie in Vaudelnay.

Surroundings

The Château de Montreuil-Bellay, a castle, is located in the immediate vicinity of Vaudelnay. Chateau de Brézé, also a castle, is likewise located in the vicinity of Vaudelnay.

In the wider region surrounding Vaudelnay are the Château de Saumur and the Château de Parnay, both castles. The Ile au Than Beach and the “Château de Montsoreau-Museum of contemporary art Park” are also located there.
