In Trélazé, the Écomusée de l’Ardoise guides visitors through its exhibition rooms and offers a demonstration of slate splitting. Part of it is housed in a 15th-century building constructed from slate. The Anciennes Écuries des ardoisières formerly served as stables for draught horses used in the mines.

The Théâtre de l’Avant-Scène is located on the historic site of Trélazé’s first match factory and hosts concerts and theatre performances. Since 1996, the Festival de Trélazé has been a free event open to everyone.

Landscape and Trails

Today, the Parc des Ardoisières is a natural area of almost 100 hectares, featuring old extraction pits and slate spoil heaps. The natural landscape was created by transforming a former slate quarry.

The La Loire à Vélo route passes through Trélazé’s former slate-mining area. Along the route, the Authion is crossed by hand-operated ferry. The Parc des Ardoisières also offers an orienteering course through the old extraction pits and slate spoil heaps.

The Trélazé Découverte web application offers a route to ten interesting points in the town. The virtual-reality film by Trélazé Découverte can be viewed at a media station installed at the Pôle Hervé-Bazin. Trélazé Découverte also offers a virtual-reality film about 600 years of slate mining, based on statements by the Passeurs d’histoire and archival research.
