History and Culture
The fortified town includes the Porte Saint-Jean, which was placed under heritage protection by decree in 1889. The Hôpital Saint-Jean received pilgrims and sick people before they entered Montreuil-Bellay. Its chapel was consecrated on 10 March 1484.
The Église des Grands Augustins is a former church of the Augustinian monastery dating from the 17th century and was restored between 1988 and 1992. The Maison du Mire-Apothicaire is a 15th-century house; wooden sculptures on both sides of the door depict the preparation of an ointment. The Maison Dovalle is a 16th-century house and the birthplace of the poet Charles Dovalle.

A botanical garden is located next to the Chapelle des Petits Augustins. It features aromatic and culinary plants as well as a collection of roses.
