The GR3 runs from La Pommeraye to Champtoceaux. Another route, “Des Fours aux Moulins”, connects the agriculturally oriented Mauges plateau with the banks of the Loire.

Trails and Landscape

On the “Des Fours aux Moulins” hiking trail between La Pommeraye and Montjean-sur-Loire, hikers discover the sites of former windmills, which recall the region’s former grain farming in this bocage landscape. The Sentier du ruisseau des Moulins leads through vineyards and along small paths in a natural setting. At the same time, it takes hikers to discover several mills that were once operated in the region.

Culture and History

The windmill “moulin à vent dit moulin de la Renardière” in La Pommeraye dates from the 18th century. The Church of Saint-Martin-de-Vertou is a Neo-Gothic building constructed in 1868. It can be seen along the route through the centre of La Pommeraye.

Events

The Course de Côte de La Pommeraye was held for the first time in 1964. It takes place on a 2,450-metre-long route through vineyards. Designated spectator areas are provided for the public; only these areas are permitted.
