Saint-Herblain: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Cours Hermeland forms a green-blue landscape axis in Saint-Herblain and crosses the municipality over a straight-line distance of 7 kilometres from north to south. Walks, running routes and cycling tours are possible along developed, environmentally friendly connections. Opened in 2015, the green route along the Cours Hermeland leads by bicycle from north to south through Saint-Herblain’s various natural areas; an accessible cycling tour runs from Parc de la Savèze to Marais de la Pelousière. The Circuit Hermeland is a figure-of-eight hiking trail that can be divided into two circular routes, each 7 kilometres long. As part of this Circuit Hermeland, a path for pedestrians and cyclists also runs through preserved and landscaped former agricultural areas.

Nature

The Marais de la Pelousière wetland serves numerous bird species as a migration, wintering and breeding area. Several plant species also grow there that are considered notable because of their rarity.

The Domaine de la Gournerie comprises a château built in 1623 and extended in the 19th century, as well as a park covering around 60 hectares with a conservation garden, two ponds and an educational garden. Parc de la Gournerie offers an area for walks, opportunities for hiking and running, sports equipment, a pond and a château. Around 30 notable trees of various species grow in the park.

Parc de la Chézine offers footpaths, play and picnic areas, a landscaped fitness trail and a pond for fishing.

Parc de la Carrière is a 22-hectare former sand and gravel quarry that has been converted into a recreational area. It is accessible to pedestrians and cyclists via Rue du Docteur-Boubée; hiking and running are possible there as free sporting activities. The Jardin des plantes méditerranéennes in the park contains 17,000 plants arranged in five thematically distinct areas.

Paths and activities

Saint-Herblain’s hiking trails are explained by on-site information boards and leaflets. They introduce the local cultural heritage as well as the animal and plant life.

The Longère de la Bégraisière hosts themed and artistic exhibitions, creative and artistic workshops, as well as conferences. The programme also includes discovery walks and trips into nature, including birdwatching sessions.

Culture

ONYX is a municipal theatre with 600 seats in Saint-Herblain’s Atlantis district. Its programme includes dance, theatre, music and circus arts. Since 2020, ONYX has been a nationally recognised and supported venue for choreographic and circus arts and hosts artist residencies.

The Zénith Nantes Métropole in Saint-Herblain is an event venue with a capacity of up to 8,500 spectators, including 6,800 seats.

The Gothic church in Bourg dates from the 15th century, houses the relics of Saint Hermeland and is listed in the register of Monuments historiques.

The Van Hanh Buddhist Pagoda, inaugurated in 2008, is considered the first Buddhist pagoda of its kind in western France. Its garden has a fountain, statues and Asian plant species. As part of the European Heritage Days, the Van Hanh Pagoda opens to the public.
