Trails

The Circuit de la Chapelle de la Magdelaine starts and ends at the La Magdeleine car park near the Étang du Gâvre and combines forest paths, forest avenues and regional heritage sites. The Circuit des Chêtelons is an easy, 2.9-kilometre PR circular trail in Le Gâvre. At the same time, it is an educational trail where visitors can observe various stages of the natural regeneration of oak. A 2-kilometre Balade à Roulettes® in the Forêt du Gâvre is accessible to pushchairs, balance bikes and wheelchairs.

Culture and History

The Chapelle de la Magdelaine is a chapel dating from the 12th century that was rebuilt at the beginning of the 19th century. Inside, there is a 15th-century polychrome limestone statue of the Virgin of Notre-Dame de Grâce and an original sideboard.

The Église Notre Dame was originally a 13th-century chapel and was extensively altered in the 15th and 19th centuries. It has a wooden barrel vault with carved beams depicting forest animals such as wild boar and wolf. Stained-glass windows from the 1930s also commemorate the First World War.

The Musée Benoist is housed in a building dating from 1648. It has an extensive collection of 18th-century depictions of the “Vierge à l’accouchée” and is designed to be family-friendly. On the Place du Muguet, information panels provide details about the history of Le Gâvre’s heritage. A local legend is associated with the Chêne au Duc; the Parcours photos also draws attention to the Neolithic Alignement du Pilier.
