Culture and History

The Château de l'Oiselinière dates from between 1800 and 1835 and was formerly a hunting lodge belonging to the lords of Clisson. The Tour Boisteau was built between 1851 and 1856 as a former water tower for raising water and follows the Clisson-influenced architectural style.

The church of Gorges was rebuilt in 1860 in the Gothic Revival style. It is built from limestone and granite on the plan of a Latin cross. The entrance portico of La Sénardière is believed to date from the 13th century.

The Moulin à Papier du Liveau is one of the last testimonies to the papermaking tradition on the Sèvre Nantaise. The group-visit programme includes a tour of the machine room and mechanisms; visitors can also be introduced to the handmade production of sheets of paper.

The Bois de Buis is classified as a sensitive natural area, meaning an area of particular environmental sensitivity. It has a viewpoint above the Sèvre offering panoramic views of Gorges.
