Hiking

L’école buissonnière is a 3-kilometre circular walk suitable for everyone. The route includes 13 sites spread throughout Casson that are of botanical, environmental or ecological interest. As a playful and educational nature trail in the style of a treasure hunt, it is accompanied by a ladybird and a grasshopper, which guide visitors.

The Sentier des enfants de Batz is an educational trail with seven information panels about the history of the municipality of Casson, its buildings and its biodiversity. At the same time, it is a memorial site and a shady walking trail.

Nature

The Chemins-Creux loop passes through the bocage landscape of Casson, where oak trees line the sunken lanes. These sunken lanes were formerly used as livestock paths and enabled water to drain away in winter.

A very rare species of bat lives in the bell tower of the Église Saint-Louis. Pike, perch, black bass, carp, bream, roach, rudd and eel are found in the Étang du Motais.

Culture

The Église Saint-Louis dates from 1841 and was designed by the architect Chenantais. It contains a listed 15th-century alabaster relief depicting the Adoration of the Magi between two saints.

The Chapelle Sainte-Anne was listed as a historic monument by decree of 14 February 1989. The Chapelle de la Recouvrance dates from 1860 and replaced an earlier chapel that had already been mentioned from 1649 onwards. Historically, it was a place of procession where prayers were offered for the healing of sheep and sick children.

The Château du Plessis includes the façades and roofs, the staircase with its wrought-iron railing, the Empire salon with its decorations, the porch and grand staircase, as well as the landscaped garden with the two stone lions at the entrance to the planted semicircle.

Food and drink

La F’Hermaphrodite offers a visit with snail tasting by reservation. The La F’Hermaphrodite farm offers prepared Gros Gris snails in their shells, as chouquettes, cooked and as preserves.
