Culture and history

The remains of Champigny's former lime kilns, also known as “Chaufours”, were used to produce lime by calcination and were recognised as local heritage in 2019.

The Cité-Jardins de Champigny-sur-Marne was created by the architects Pelletier and Tesseire. Built between 1931 and 1939, the neighbourhood includes a theatre and a school.

In the Coeuilly district, the Théâtre Gérard-Philipe has an event hall renovated in summer 2021 with more than 500 seats. The Biennale d’art contemporain in Champigny-sur-Marne offers free visits, educational programmes and workshops, with a particular focus on young audiences. The Maison de l’Histoire et du Patrimoine offers exhibitions, discussion sessions and workshops throughout the year.

The Église Saint-Saturnin is a Romanesque church dating from the 13th century; the high altar includes 16th-century wood panelling. An ossuary and a memorial monument were erected in Champigny in 1877; the ossuary contains the remains of thousands of German and French soldiers.

Water and nature

On some summer weekends, the Base nautique Roland-Bouchier rents out canoes and kayaks. On a secured route, visitors can travel freely along the Marne from the base to the Pont du Petit-Parc.

The Parc départemental du Plateau offers a walking route from the plateau to the river and its islands, as well as a viewpoint overlooking the Marne Valley and Paris.

The Parc du Tremblay provides 73 hectares of green space for relaxation, leisure and sport, including athletics, golf, pump track, padel, rugby, tennis and beach volleyball.

Champigny-sur-Marne can be reached via RER E at Boullereaux-Champigny station and RER A at Champigny station; an extensive bus and Noctilien network complements the service.
