Culture and architecture

The Église Saint-Christophe has been listed as a Monument historique by decree since 19 October 1928. The Château des Mèches was built around 1850 in the style of an Italian villa, replacing a 17th-century manor house.

The Colombier de Créteil is one of the oldest dovecotes in Île-de-France and now houses exhibitions. Guided tours are regularly offered at the Colombier de Créteil.

Thanks to its contemporary architecture, the Cathédrale de Créteil is considered part of the 21st-century heritage. In 2008, the Choux de Créteil received the “Patrimoine du XXe siècle” label from the French Ministry of Culture. They consist of ten towers, each with fifteen floors, which are immediately recognizable by their balcony-like, leaf-shaped projections.

The Archives départementales du Val-de-Marne hold exhibitions once or twice a year on various aspects of the Val-de-Marne area, including architecture, leisure and literature. They also regularly organize archive readings, discussion panels and conferences.

Parks and nature

The Parc Dupeyroux is a 19th-century English garden covering an area of 3.5 hectares. It contains an Italian-style loggia villa inspired by a model from Verona. Some trees in the Parc Dupeyroux are more than 200 years old.

Since 2003, Nature & Société has been managing the Maison de la Nature on the Île de loisirs de Créteil. In Île-de-France, Nature & Société offers nature workshops and family outings to explore nature.

Paths and water

La Végétale is a 20-kilometre greenway between Créteil and Santeny. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility and offers numerous paths for pedestrians and cyclists. The start of La Végétale at the Pompadour car park is a ten-minute walk from Créteil-Pointe du Lac Métro station.

The Barrage de Créteil dates from the period between 1900 and 1902. A lock allows people to cross the Barrage de Créteil along the left bank.
