Floressas: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the village of Floressas stands the Château de Floressas; its main construction phase dates back to the 14th century, and the oldest surviving state of the building is no older than the second quarter of the 14th century. The château preserves a residential building and two main towers. These formed the western side and the northwestern and southwestern corners, respectively, of a quadrilateral presumably arranged around a central courtyard, with sides measuring almost 40 metres.

Culture

The Église Saint-Martin de Floressas was rebuilt pursuant to ordinances issued by the Conseil de la Généralité de Montauban on 21 March 1752 and by the intendant on 29 April 1752, and was completed in 1762 on the foundations of the 14th-century church. It follows a Latin-cross floor plan and has a rectangular nave, two side chapels and a choir with a flat end. The high altar is surmounted by a canopy resting on two red Corinthian marble columns.

Landscape

Floressas lies between the Causse, the Lot Valley and the Quercy Blanc. The Terres Rouges are located near the hamlet of Segos within the municipality of Floressas; they are a reddish geological formation in Floressas.

Wine

The Floressas area belongs to the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée for Cahors wines. Château de Chambert, on the upper slopes of Floressas in the Lot, is in the process of converting to biodynamic farming and produces AOC Cahors wines. Guided tours with wine tastings lasting around one and a half hours are offered at Château de Chambert.
