Bélaye: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Bélaye is situated on a rocky spur above the meanders of the Lot. The village is completely car-free and reserved for pedestrians. The municipality and its hamlets offer hiking routes with different starting points, lengths, and levels of difficulty.

Nature

The Circuit d’Al Tuc runs through vineyards and forests and reaches viewpoints overlooking the Lot Valley. There is also a mountain biking version of this route, with a riding time of approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. From the rocky spur of Bélaye, there are views over the Lot Valley and the Cahors wine-growing region.

Culture

The former monastery offers refreshments and visitor information in summer. The Church of Saint-Aignan was built onto the fortification wall of Bélaye in the 14th century and houses a monumental Baroque altarpiece made of walnut wood. Outside service times, the key to the church can be requested at the town hall on Monday and Thursday mornings; Saint-Aignan Church is open all year round.

The Maison Raynaly dates back to the 13th century and is listed as a historic monument. Its architectural details include paired windows with intricately carved columns. A section of wall pierced by loopholes remains from the bishop’s castle on the western side of the village. The ruins of the co-lord’s castle lie at the eastern end of the village centre.

Events

The Rencontres de Violoncelle de Bélaye take place every summer during the first week of August.
