Capdenac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The old town of Capdenac is situated on a peninsula-shaped rock and overlooks a wide meander of the Lot by more than 100 metres. Capdenac is traditionally identified with Uxellodunum, the oppidum where the last Gallic resistance fighters sought refuge from the Roman invasion.

History

The fortifications of Capdenac were classified as historic monuments in 1911. The keep of Capdenac-le-Haut dates from the 13th and 14th centuries; its terrace has battlements and corner towers.

Culture

A chapel in the Church of Saint John the Baptist houses a wooden statue of Blessed Count Géraud. The medieval garden on the town walls is one of Capdenac’s attractions.

The stone-built points of interest include the Fontaine des Anglais, a spring carved into the rock, and the Fontaine Gauloise, which was also carved into the rock. The Musée de Capdenac-le-Haut presents exhibitions on prehistory, the Gallo-Roman period and the Middle Ages.

Walking Trails

The circular walking route “Le Circuit de Lunan à Capdenac-le-Haut” is 9 km long. The circular route “Circuit de la Cité de Capdenac” offers panoramic views over the Lot Valley.

Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view from the keep’s terrace. The Jardin des Cinq Sens is considered a place to relax.
