Riguepeu: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Riguepeu showcases its history at specific sites. The Église Saint-Michel originally stood in a castelnau surrounded by fortified walls. The present building was constructed in 1746 and has a pentagonal chancel and a classical bell tower. The oldest buildings in the village feature a light ochre stone with veining, known as “pierre de Riguepeu”.

Nature

The Grand Circuit de la Forêt de Montpellier is a 13 km hiking trail in the PR category, with a moderate difficulty level and a stated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. It leads into the Forêt domaniale de Montpellier and reaches the Chêne du Juge clearing, where justice was once administered. A total of three hiking trails cross the municipality’s landscapes and wooded areas.

The Circuit des Collines includes an oak-lined path along a ridge beside a field and crosses the Philibert stream. The Moulin de Riguepeu is located on the Osse River in green surroundings. It can be visited from April to September, Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

History

From the 15th century until 1806, the Forêt de Montpellier was home to a significant glass industry that produced bottles for Armagnac. Later, tileworks were established there, using the forest as a nearby and abundant energy source.

Local traditions

Riguecoop in Riguepeu maintains traditional Gers know-how for duck products. The ducks are raised without genetically modified feed, butchered and prepared according to traditional methods, without the addition of colouring agents or preservatives.

The Foire aux oies maigres, formerly held on 18 October, was revived by the pétanque club. It included entertainment, exhibitors, meals and geese. The Société de Pétanque de Riguepeu organises events such as the Foire aux oies in October and the moped race “les 50km de Riguepeu” in June.
