Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Maur is located in the heart of the village and preserves part of the original abbey church dating from the 11th century. In the 19th century, a crypt in the Church of Saint-Maur housed a throne-shaped tomb containing the relics of Saint Maurus.
By the 12th century at the latest, a monastery founded by the Counts of Astarac existed in Saint-Maur. It later became dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre.
The Saint-Maur-Soulès memorial is located in the village centre. The memorial in Saint-Maur commemorates the ambush of 8 June and the resistance fighters who were killed. Parking is available near the Saint-Maur-Soulès memorial.
