Avezan is a characteristic hilltop village in Lomagne. The Château d’Avezan is a Gascon fortress built in the 13th century and a lookout and observation point over the Arrats Valley.

Culture
The Château d’Avezan was part of a fortified complex that enclosed the village.
The Church of Saint James in Avezan has a western wall bell tower dating from the 13th century. The nave and choir were built in the 19th century.
The centre of Avezan is a former castelnau and preserves houses made of hewn stone from the 18th century.
Landscape
The “Padouenc” is an extensive wooded park forming a plateau on the slope and equipped with a picnic table.
A walking trail runs near Avezan. A rectangular dovecote can also be seen.
History and Present
Since 2022, the owners have been completing the restoration of the Château d’Avezan and developing it into a venue for art and culture.
The “Planeso” terrace garden hosts land art exhibitions every year.
A statue of Saint James recalls that a branch of the Chemin du Puy en Velay pilgrimage route passed through Avezan.
Visiting
From 1 May to 30 June and from 15 September to 15 October, the Château d’Avezan offers guided tours for groups and individual visitors from Monday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
