Culture and History
La petite Pologne is located on the site of the former Abbaye de Beaupré. Its Palladian-inspired layout comprises a residential building, a sheepfold and a stable. It was originally built as a maison de plaisance, meaning a country house for leisure and residence. For La petite Pologne, Nicolas-François Mathieu purchased the materials from the convent buildings of the Abbaye de Beaupré, which had been destroyed by the fire of 1796. La petite Pologne is privately owned and has been partially protected as a Monument historique since 9 October 2024. The owner does not permit access to the Beaupré grounds; a barrier blocks the access road.
The Abbaye de Beaupré was founded in 1135 for reformed Bernardine monks under the Cistercian order. The Église de Moncel-lès-Lunéville was built in 1837 and is dedicated to Saint Martin. The former Église de Moncel-lès-Lunéville was rebuilt around 1700 after its destruction in the Thirty Years' War.
The Monument dédié au 314e Régiment de la 79e DI et au 749e bataillon de Chars Destroyer commemorates the crossing of the Meurthe from 20 to 23 September 1944. Les Wagons began in 1879 as an industrial site and was long associated with the manufacture of railway and motor vehicles.
Nature and Water
The Forêt domaniale de Mondon offers numerous flat paths on wide trails, except near the Grand Étang. The Étang Communal can be reached via the N59 towards Saint-Dié at the “Sablière” exit or via the path behind the Zone de l’Ecosseuse along the Meurthe. The pond is equipped with tables and benches.
The Étangs fédéraux René Boury consist of a large pond of 11.5 ha and a smaller one of 3.5 ha. They are open to anglers who are members of an AAPPMA in Meurthe-et-Moselle or of an AAPPMA affiliated with the URNE.
Active Outdoors
The Parcours de santé is a fitness trail with 20 stations that uses the paths of the Forêt de Mondon. It starts in the Forêt de Mondon and takes approximately 40 minutes. The Parcours d'orientation à Mondon offers three difficulty levels: green for beginners, blue for intermediate participants and yellow for experts.
The Circuit vélo boucle de Mondon starts at the Forêt de Mondon in Moncel-lès-Lunéville and is approximately 10 km long. It can be ridden with mountain bikes and trekking bikes and is described as a family-friendly cycling tour. Signage guides cyclists along the loop to the Grand Etang.
Getting Around Locally
The LUNEO public transport service operates from Monday to Saturday on two regular urban routes and connects Lunéville, Chanteheux, Moncel-lès-Lunéville and Jolivet. As part of Voiture Lulu, Moncel-lès-Lunéville has an electric vehicle for car sharing.
