History
The Château-fort de Conflans was built in 995 by Jean d'Apremont on the site of today's Parc d'Apremont. In 1636, it was destroyed on the orders of Cardinal Richelieu and finally devastated in 1669 after an attempt to rebuild it.
A Roman burial discovered in 1908 on the road from Conflans to Jarny contained a face mask. It belonged to the movable helmet of a presumed Roman officer and is known as the Masque de Conflans. The Masque de Conflans was declared a “Trésor National” by the French Ministry of Culture.
Culture
The Musée de l'art forain et de la musique mécanique was founded in 1985. It displays more than 300 ethnographic exhibits from the period between 1860 and 1960, including salon barrel organs, music boxes, phonographs, Limonaire fairground organs, automata and mechanical pianos.
The museum is closed to the public; however, exceptional openings take place throughout the year for occasions such as Heritage Days, Museum Night and Christmas.
The Église Saint-Martin was built in 1844 in the town centre on the site of the former chapel of Conflans Castle. The church building project was drawn up in 1841 by M. Bauchet, an architect from Briey.
On the edge of the Conflans-en-Jarnisy cemetery, the Ossuaire is fully protected as a historic monument; it was listed on 23 November 1987.
