Vendres: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The landscape of Vendres includes the more or less saline Étang de Vendres lagoon and an area of coastal dunes. Both are located in the Basse plaine de l'Aude Natura 2000 site. The beaches of Vendres stretch for more than 3 km through a protected natural area.

Nature

The Étang de Vendres is one of the most significant reed beds in the Mediterranean region. The Balade nature accompagnée, a guided nature tour, takes place in its wetland area.

The dune corridor Le Cordon dunaire in Vendres-Plage is located in an area managed by the Conservatoire du Littoral, within a Natura 2000 site and an important bird conservation area. The Voie verte Bayssan–Vendres plage also leads into the municipality of Vendres; there, it has an observatory and information panels about fauna and flora.

Coast and Port

The Port du Chichoulet is both a marina, a fishing port and a shellfish-farming port. Fishing and shellfish-farming professionals offer oysters and mussels there for consumption on site or to take away.

The Randonnée de la Boucle du Littoral starts at the harbour master's office of Port du Chichoulet in Vendres-Plage and leads through the dunes by the sea, where numerous birds can be observed.

Espace Location Jet Rando 34 in Vendres-Plage offers guided hikes and rents stand-up paddleboards for peaceful excursions on the sea.

History

The Villa “Temple de Vénus” is a ruin site on a promontory by the Étang de Vendres, 600 metres from the village. Its first use dates from the 1st to the 3rd century.
