Nature
The Orb borders Lignan-sur-Orb to the west; there are pleasant walking paths in the village. To the east of Lignan-sur-Orb, the Pech de Montaury forms the local green recreational area, which is connected to walking opportunities in the village.
The Île de Tabarka is located in the immediate vicinity of Lignan-sur-Orb, within the municipality of Maraussan. There is a 2 km-long fitness trail there for walks, picnics and outdoor recreation.
In the surrounding area, the very easy mountain-bike circuit “Circuit L’Île de Tabarka” runs for 17.2 km towards Lignan-sur-Orb. The Orb and its surroundings can be discovered along the circuit; the Île de Tabarka can be seen along the route.
Culture and History
The Église Saint Vincent was initially the chapel of the château; the château had been owned by the Bishop of Béziers since 977. The chapel was rebuilt in the 12th century during the Romanesque period, while the Église Saint Vincent has had its present appearance since the 17th century.
The church in Lignan-sur-Orb houses a silver pyx, which was classified as a protected object on 28 March 1955. The “tartugo” is Lignan-sur-Orb’s totem animal.
The Médiathèque Albertine Sarrazin hosts exhibitions, workshops, other activities and performances.
Getting Around
Route 10 connects the Béziers Gare routière (De Gaulle) bus stop with Lignan-sur-Orb and Corneilhan. The two bus routes serve the following stops in Lignan-sur-Orb: Lignan Gare, Zone Artisanale, Pierre de Coubertin, École Marie Curie and Mairie.
The “Béziers La mer” cycle route runs from Lignan-sur-Orb via Béziers to the beaches. The continuous cycle route from Lignan-sur-Orb to Valras-Plage is connected to EuroVelo 8, which links Athens with Cádiz.
Local Life
The Marché de Lignan-sur-Orb offers fruit, vegetables, local wines and beers, cheese, fish, as well as stalls selling prepared food. On the first Sunday of each month, the market is expanded to include handicrafts, clothing and a convivial area for meeting, exchanging ideas and tasting the products on offer.
The “Samedis du vin” event series returns in 2026 and includes an evening on 9 May in Lignan-sur-Orb at the Place de la Vierge, focused on local wine, regional products and music.
