Village and Landscape
Salasc is located in the classified area of the Lac du Salagou valley.
The historic centre of Salasc consists of narrow, winding lanes around the church. The Béals of Salasc are small irrigation channels that supply vegetable gardens, orchards, vineyards and fields.
Culture and History
Salasc preserves 18th-century façades decorated with trompe-l’œil paintings. The Church of Saint-Géniès dates from the 12th century and was extensively rebuilt in the 15th and 18th centuries. The church contains restored Baroque wall frescoes.
The small square fortification formed by the houses adjoining the Church of Saint-Géniès was built at the end of the 13th century. The fountain in the centre of Salasc was built in the first half of the 19th century. The water mill of Salasc was already in operation in 1601 and ceased operating in 1907.
Part of a windmill is still visible on the road to Octon; it is believed to date from the 18th century.
Things to Do
The Chemin des Béals trail begins in Salasc and is listed as 5 km long, with a walking time of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes and an elevation gain of 301 metres. Cycling Route No. 11 passes through Salasc and connects Lac du Salagou with the Cirque de Mourèze.
