Magalas: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Magalas combines evidence of local history with winegrowing and paths through the countryside. The Église Saint-Laurent was originally a castle chapel; by decree of 16 November 1984, it was listed as a historic monument. The Espace Vins et Campanes houses a bell collection and provides explanations of the art of winegrowing.

Those who choose Magalas as a place to stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and history

The historic centre of Magalas preserves medieval wall remnants, former shops, a tower, vaulted passages and lanes in the Circulade style. The Portail de la Coste is the only surviving one of the four former gates of Magalas, which were arranged according to the cardinal directions, and is in perfect condition.

The Montfo site served as an oppidum from the Iron Age through the Gallo-Roman period. The Montfo archaeological site is associated with an aqueduct, wells, kilns, amphorae, coins and pottery sherds.

Paths through the countryside around Magalas lead through vineyards and the valleys of Saint-Pierre; paths through this landscape also lead to the Chapelle Sainte-Croix and the Cascade de Saint-Jean.
