Lunel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Musée Médard in Lunel is dedicated to books, the history of its collections, and the crafts of written heritage. The collections comprise nearly 5,000 books that the bibliophile Louis Médard assembled over approximately 30 years until his death in 1841. The Médard collection is divided into five thematic areas: theology, law, sciences and the arts, belles-lettres, and history.

Culture

The Musée de la Tour des Prisons is located in a former fortified tower that became a prison during the Wars of Religion. During a tour of the Tour des Prisons, a flashlight is used to view the graffiti and more than 300 inscriptions on the walls, floor, and wood panelling. Group tours of the Tour des Prisons are possible year-round by prior reservation and subject to availability.

Lunel's multimodal transport hub connects pedestrians, cyclists, public transport, rail services, cars, and taxis.

History

Lunel's medieval history includes a significant Jewish intellectual centre that was active in the 12th and 13th centuries. After the canal and port were completed in 1728, Lunel experienced a century of commercial prosperity; numerous historic residences and urban mansions in the town centre bear witness to this former wealth.

Nature

The Arboretum de Lunel covers 2 hectares; side paths lead through the grounds to a central area for recreation and relaxation. In six thematic areas, it presents the development of human cultures and eating habits from the Palaeolithic to the present day. A guided tour of the Arboretum de Lunel also explains the development of Mediterranean plant life from the Mesolithic to the present day in these six areas; the strawberry tree and jujube are also presented as components of the Mediterranean diet.

A 15 km-long, easy route begins in Lunel at the Canal de Lunel and along the banks of the Dardaillon. It follows the canal's towpath through a plain with the fauna and flora characteristic of the Petite Camargue.
