History

The history of the village goes back a long way: archaeological excavations have uncovered traces of settlement dating from the Copper Age, between 2500 and 1800 BC. Archaeological research dates the origins of the village of Mudaison to around the 9th century.

In the centre of the village stands the Ancienne maison des Ursulines, also known as the presbytery. Built in the 17th century, this manor house is incorporated into the medieval fortifications of the village centre. In 1782, it was sold to the municipality to establish the presbytery there. Alongside the church, a square fortification dating from the 13th century and the surrounding period enclosed the centre of Mudaison.

The first church of Saint Asciscle et Sainte Victoire was built between the 10th and 12th centuries. In 1770, it was completely rebuilt, with the exception of its lower section. A section of a paved road typical of the 14th century, known as a calade, was also uncovered in the Rue du Presbytère. The Domaine du Bosc has been documented since the 16th century through a record concerning its chapel.
