Margon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The medieval Château de Margon was transformed into an elegant residence during the Renaissance and given flamboyant Gothic furnishings.

Culture

In 1937, the Château de Margon was entered on the list of Monuments historiques; in 2017, parts of it were classified as a Monument historique. The Château de Margon and its park are open to the public in 2026.

The Circulade of Margon runs around the Château de Margon. The Church of Saint-Christophe in Margon dates from the 12th century and houses a classified altarpiece.

History

The smaller Portalet Gate has been preserved as a remnant of the former fortified village of Margon. The land of Margon was a former barony; the first homage to the king took place in 1221.

Hiking and Landscape

Les Banastes is a 13 km circular hike of moderate difficulty with a stated duration of 4 hours and 15 minutes. The hike begins at Place de Gaulle and is accessible via Rue de la Cantarelle.

The Margon–Pressoir bus stop is about a four-minute walk from the Les Banastes route; the Béziers–Pouzolles–Margon–Roujan–Gabian services operate there.

In the area around Margon, the Les Banastes route includes a turnoff to the Chapelle Saint-Nazaire. It leads through the Côtes de Thongue vineyards and hilly countryside.
