Nature and Trails
The Passa Païs Greenway, also known as the Haut-Languedoc Greenway, runs between Bédarieux and Mazamet for more than 75 km along a former railway line. No motorised vehicles are permitted on Passa Païs; the Greenway is reserved for walking, cycling, running, rollerblading and horse riding.
The Balcons de l'Orb circular trail passes through pine forests and garrigue on the heights of Bédarieux and offers views of the Orb Valley and the Caroux. It reaches a plateau with dry-stone structures and ends along the Orb.
The hike to Roc Rouge passes through landscapes featuring causses, mas, mazets, paved paths and dry-stone capitelles, and offers panoramic views of Bédarieux and the Caroux Massif. It starts at Bédarieux railway station, which can be reached via the Train de l'Aubrac line.
Active Activities
The Roc Rouge climbing area is an equipped climbing practice area with 39 routes in three sectors. The climbing routes range from difficulty grades 4b to 7a. At Roc Rouge, there is a developed car park at the foot of the cliff; the uphill approach takes ten minutes.
Culture and History
The Chapelle Saint-Raphaël de la Bastide sanctuary may date back to the pre-Romanesque period; the chapel was first mentioned in documents in 1182. The Chapelle Saint-Raphaël de la Bastide is located near a Roman site that was probably associated with a miraculous spring venerated by pilgrims.
The Église Saint-Louis dates from the early 19th century and is dedicated to Saint Louis. It houses a rare Romantic organ by the organ builder Cavaillé-Coll, which is classified as a historic monument. Self-guided visits and guided tours on request are possible; the average visit lasts one hour.
The Musée du Train et de la Photographie presents two model railway layouts depicting Bédarieux and Faugères.
Local Life
Bédarieux's traditional market takes place year-round on Monday mornings in the town centre. Bédarieux's BioNat market brings together local producers of organic and natural products on Saturday mornings.
The Soirée Oeno-Gourmande in Bédarieux brings visitors together with local winegrowers and their wineries, accompanied by platters of local products.
