Lirac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lirac is the oldest cru of the Côtes du Rhône and produces red, rosé and white wines. The vineyard lies on terraces and slopes on the right bank of the Rhône, opposite the Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine-growing region. It forms a 1,200-hectare ring in the heart of the Gard département’s garrigue and amid Roman remains.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Lirac is planning to stay directly in this village.

Culture

The Église basse in Lirac, also known as the parish church crypt, has been classified as a historic monument, including its painted furnishings, by a decree dated 31 March 1992. The painted furnishings date from the 12th and 13th centuries.

The Ermitage and Cave of Sainte Baume combine a Neolithic cave with a chapel built in the 17th century and a statue of the Virgin Mary; the site became a place of pilgrimage. The association Les Amis de la Sainte Baume offers year-round events, open days, guided visits and concerts there.

Cuisine

Since 2005, the “Gourmet Walk of the Jaugeurs and Winegrowers of Lirac” has taken place every year in May. The approximately 5-km hike passes through the vineyards and includes breaks for tasting food and Lirac wines.

At the Maison du Cru Lirac, visitors can taste red, white and rosé wines. More than 50 wineries, cellars and wine merchants also await visitors there.
