Culture and History
The Maison du Mineur museum in La Grand-Combe presents the history of mining, from the former mine washrooms to the old Puits Ricard. The Maison du Mineur displays photographs, tools, lamps, models, and objects from that period to document underground work, everyday life, and social history. It is open to everyone and can be visited with family, in groups, or as part of guided tours.
The Puits Ricard shaft was sunk in 1932; its metal headframe and ancillary buildings preserve evidence of industrial mining. The engine room and shower room at Puits Ricard preserve mining machinery and equipment that illustrate the techniques once used. From 1840 onward, La Grand-Combe was connected to the Rhône by one of the earliest railway lines.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Immaculée Conception was built between 1857 and 1864 by masons from the La Grand-Combe mining company, according to plans by the architect Pierre Prosper Chabrol.
