Guérard showcases its local history through prominent buildings, relics and small traces of culture. The Church of Saint-Georges contains the oil painting “Martyre de saint Georges” above the entrance portal. The church is one of the largest rural Gothic churches in the Seine-et-Marne département and was built at the beginning of the 13th century.

Culture

The historic fortifications of Guérard include the Terrée, a rare surviving earthwork fortification that adjoins the former Provins Gate. It is approximately 4.5 metres high and around 6 metres wide. The Guérard phylloxera plaque is visible on the façade of the town hall; a copy is located at its original site in Monthérand.

More than ten washhouses or their remains are still visible in Guérard. A walk along Guérard’s old fountains offers the opportunity to rediscover the municipality’s rural heritage. Five historic crosses are also visible today. These include the Croix de Verre, the only one of these crosses that still bears a carved Christ.

Landscape

The Grand Morin offers a peaceful canoeing route through the Guérard valley in idyllic surroundings. A walk through Guérard’s historic, revitalised vineyard conveys the area’s local history and the diversity of its terroir. This setting is complemented by hiking and cycling routes, including the “rando des vignes”.

Regional Products

Local producers in Guérard offer apple juice, cider, beef and wine with the IGP Île-de-France geographical indication. These products are available through short distribution channels.

The Domaine viticole du Bois Brillant winery of Vigne Envie is located in a green valley hollow on the Grand Morin and comprises almost 10,000 vines. Vigne Envie organises vineyard tours, wine-growing workshops and events centred around wine. Visitors can take part in the grape harvest and vine pruning there.

In the 19th century, 400 hectares of vineyards stretched across the slopes of Guérard. After these vineyards disappeared as a result of phylloxera, a wine lover is reviving this cultural heritage through biodynamic cultivation. A guided tour of the Maison de la Vigne et du Vin is listed in Guérard at the address 30, rue de la Brosse, Le Charnoy, 77580 Guérard.
