Marolles-sur-Seine can be explored from four perspectives: history, townscape, nature and trails.
Anyone planning a stay in Marolles-sur-Seine may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
The Les Gours-aux-Lions archaeological site in Marolles-sur-Seine revealed a significant cemetery dating from the Late Bronze Age. Rescue excavations at this site uncovered a total of 30 burials between 1963 and 1969.
The site was located on a high alluvial terrace on the banks of the Seine, rising up to 8 m above the river.
The old centre of Marolles-sur-Seine has also retained its Brie-like character. High enclosing walls and substantial old farm buildings shape this townscape.
In the 13th century, the Église Saint-Germain et Saint-Marcoul acquired its bell tower with staircase, an apsidiole, the transept and the north wall of the nave. Inside are stone baptismal fonts from the 16th century, classified as historic monuments, as well as interesting oil paintings and a polychrome statue of Saint Germain.
Nature
Le Carreau Franc has birdwatching points along the roadside and within the site. These points are accessible only as part of excursions organised by the ANVL.
The Le Carreau Franc area is of great importance for birdlife: many birds stop there during migration, and several species of conservation importance breed there in spring.
The ENS Le Carreau Franc is a sensitive natural area in Marolles-sur-Seine, featuring a body of water that provides habitat and is of ornithological interest.
Trails
The Boucles des Deux Fleuves runs along the Seine from Montereau to Marolles-sur-Seine and along the Yonne from Cannes-Ecluse to Montereau. The trail is 18.5 km long in total; approximately 8 km of it lies within Marolles-sur-Seine.
L'île aux moines is a 12 km-long trail that can be explored on foot, by bicycle or on horseback, offering opportunities to observe biodiversity along the way.
