Gressy is situated along distinctive waterways: the Beuvronne, a tributary of the Marne, runs through the town from north to south. To the south, the Canal de l’Ourcq borders Gressy. Anyone considering Gressy as a holiday destination may want to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature and Trails
At Étang de Gressy in Parc Macquer, visitors can walk along the pond and observe swans, minnows and ducks. Swimming in the pond and using boats on it are prohibited in Parc Macquer.
Cycle paths running along the Canal de l’Ourcq connect Paris and Gressy over 24.7 km without intersections with road traffic. From Gressy, the section of the Scandibérique, also known as EuroVelo 3, follows the Canal de l’Ourcq.
History and Culture
The Church of Saint-Denis has four stained-glass windows dating from 1902. The Manoir de Gressy is a 17th-century estate with historic charm; it provides bicycles for its guests.
The Clairefontaine estate in Gressy dates back to the 17th century. Pierre-Joseph Macquer established a laboratory and a botanical garden there, where he carried out his first scientific experiments. Clairefontaine is privately owned and not open to the general public.
The Moulin de Gressy, also known as Moulin du Pont rouge, is a mill on the Beuvronne that was renovated in the 20th century.
Local Produce
Verger de Pomamour is a retail outlet for local producers on the RD212, Route de Compans, in Gressy. Twelve varieties of dessert apples are grown there, ripening at different times and being available throughout the year.
