Bassevelle: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Bassevelle is home to the Petit Bassevelle aeronautical beacon, a ten-metre-high reinforced-concrete pylon. It bears the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” designation awarded by the Île-de-France region. Its former neon lamp, which has since disappeared, transmitted the name of the place to pilots using Morse code.

Culture and History

The Petit Bassevelle aeronautical beacon, built in 1931, stood along the Paris–Strasbourg–Nuremberg–Prague route. It was also one of the nineteen neon beacons that marked the line between Le Bourget and Strasbourg. The beacon can be viewed from the road, but cannot be climbed.

Since 2006, the Association des Amis de l’Orgue Historique de Bassevelle has organised two concerts per year. The Sainte-Croix church in Bassevelle dates from the late 15th century. The Les Groseilliers farm in Bassevelle, south of Charly, can also still be visited.

Landscape

Bassevelle is a largely unforested plateau of the Brie laitière; its elevation lies between 180 and 200 metres. At the boundary between Bassevelle and Bussières, in the direction of Orly-sur-Morin, the wooded, deep valley of the Ru de la Fonderie descends to 105 metres.
